Former UConn Huskies teammates Paige Bueckers and Nika Mühl were spotted sharing a lighthearted moment courtside at the Seattle Storm vs. Chicago Sky WNBA game on Friday night. With UConn's summer practice schedule wrapped up, the team members have dispersed for a break.
During the game at Climate Pledge Arena, Bueckers was seen dressed in a Seattle Storm jersey to show her support for her former teammate. They were also having fun playing a game of rock-paper-scissors.
The close camaraderie between the two developed during their four seasons together at UConn, followed by consecutive NCAA tournament national semifinal losses in 2023 and 2024. In an exclusive interview with Ion Television during the game, Bueckers expressed her excitement about visiting Seattle to see Mühl:
"I'm taking a West Coast trip. I'm done with summer workouts and just decided to come visit my twin (Mühl). So I'm excited to be here."
When asked about watching Mühl compete at the professional level, Bueckers shared her pride:
"It's very cool. It's super surreal just to watch her live out her dreams and just to know that a few months ago we were living together. So it's definitely surreal and I'm super proud of her."
Mühl’s rookie season stats show her averaging 0.1 assists and 0.6 points per game. Even though she did not play against the Sky, Seattle will have another chance to meet Chicago on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET after losing to them 88-84 on Friday.
Paige Bueckers Prepares for Final UConn Season Amid Highs and Lows
As Paige Bueckers enters her final season with the UConn Huskies in 2023–24, her collegiate journey has been marked by both big achievements and tough setbacks. Bueckers earned the National Player of the Year award during her freshman season in 2020-21, but her path hasn't been without obstacles.
In 2022, Paige Bueckers faced a major setback when she tore her ACL during an offseason pickup game, leading her to redshirt the entire season. The following year brought more adversity for UConn, with Azzi Fudd suffering a similar ACL injury that sidelined her for the season.
Former UConn forward and New York Liberty player Breanna Stewart was optimistic as she talked about the health problems faced by the athletes on the "Best of Both Worlds" podcast:
"Paige, Azzi. Excited to see how they're going to handle this year because they dealt with tons of injuries. Hoping that they can just be healthy and get back to playing basketball."
Although Fudd was missing, Paige Bueckers led the Huskies to the Final Four in the 2023–24 season, where they were ultimately defeated by Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
The only full season they played together was 2021–22, though Bueckers missed a significant portion due to a tibial plateau fracture. Now, Bueckers is gearing up for her final season at UConn and is widely anticipated to be the top pick in the next WNBA Draft.
