Paige Bueckers made history on Tuesday after it was announced that she will have her own shoe as part of the Nike GT Hustle 3 shoe collection. The brand had previously released the collection as part of the Blueprint Pack and later the Electric Pack.
According to Sole Retriever, Bueckers' shoes will come in a multicolor theme.
"Nike describes the pair as having the area codes 860 and 612 on the upper, which represent UCONN (860) and her hometown of Edina, Minnesota (612). Alongside this, the sock liner features 'Paige's personal mantra and her nickname,'" it reported.
Bueckers' shoe will be available from September 12 in Nike stores and select online retailers. It is reported to cost $190. While Bueckers is the only athlete with her own shoe, Nike will also release colorways unique to the schools it sponsors.
In September 2023, Bueckers signed a deal with Nike that was reported to extend into her professional career as well. The guard is playing her final season at UConn and will declare for the 2025 WNBA Draft.
"I am blessed and honored to announce my partnership with Nike," she said in a statement. "Joining the Nike family is a childhood dream come true. I can't wait to see what we accomplish together on and off the court."
While nothing is set in stone, it is possible that she could get her signature shoe once she is in the league. For now, Sabrina Ionescu is the only active WNBA player with a Nike shoe collection. The Indiana Fever's Caitlin Clark and Las Vegas Aces' A'ja Wilson are set to receive theirs in 2025.
Paige Bueckers is prepared to win her first championship
After a long break from playing due to injuries, Bueckers returned last season and took the UConn Huskies to the Final Four. She averaged 21.3 points, 3.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds per contest during the regular season and took it up to 25.8 points, 4.6 assists and 8.0 rebounds per game in March Madness.
For the upcoming season, a similar intensity in performance is expected from Bueckers.
“There’s a much larger sense of urgency,” she said (via The Athletic). “This is my last year to get what I came here for, which is a national championship. … No more ‘Passive Paige.’”
The Huskies last won a championship in 2016, marking the end of Breanna Stewart's consecutive four titles. Now, Bueckers can enter her name in the UConn history books.
