Paige Bueckers turned in another excellent performance for UConn in its 79-44 win over Georgetown in its Big East regular-season opener at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, on Sunday.

The 6-foot guard unloaded 24 points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks in 28 minutes of action for the No. 2 Huskies (9-1, 1-0 in Big East).

Bueckers shot 11-for-16, including 2-for-3 from the 3-point line, for her second-straight 20-point game and sixth in 10 games in the 2024-25 women's college basketball season.

The Hopkins, Minnesota, native scored the first two points of the game on a jumper. Bueckers nailed another jumper with 1:01 remaining to hand UConn a 14-10 edge in a low-scoring game.

Bueckers added nine points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and two blocks in the second quarter. She led a 23-6 surge that gave the Huskies a 40-19 lead at the half.

The guard piled on the points in the third period, scoring 11 points on two jumpers, two layups and one 3-pointer. She outscored the Georgetown team, which managed to score only 10 points in the quarter, helping UConn secure a 64-29 edge.

The lead allowed the Huskies to rest Bueckers in the fourth period, and the Geno Auriemma-coached squad coasted to a bounce-back win in its 2024-25 Big East Conference regular-season opener.

UConn captured its first win in the Big East Conference regular season with a 79-44 pounding of Georgetown on Sunday at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. After a slow start, the Huskies turned up the jets in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Hoyas 47-16 to grab a 64-29 lead going into the fourth period.

Fifth-year guard Paige Bueckers led the offense for the Geno Auriemma-mentored team with 24 points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks, while freshman Sarah Strong contributed a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double for UConn, which bounced back from its first defeat of the season to Notre Dame.

The Huskies shot 47.8% and limited Georgetown to 15 of 57 shooting. UConn dominated the stats with a 42-37 edge in rebounding.

The Huskies had the advantage in assists (25-7), steals (15-6) and blocks (6-2). The Huskies took care of the ball well, recording 10 turnovers while forcing 22 errors. They also led the inside points battle, 36-18.

UConn will take the court Tuesday for its nonconference clash against Iowa State as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville.
