UConn guard Paige Bueckers had her string of 20-point games broken on New Year's Day but the No. 7 Huskies surged past Marquette 77-45 to remain unbeaten in Big East Conference play.
The 6-foot senior didn't have a great night scoring-wise, tallying 12 points, on 4-of-12 shooting (2-of-5 from 3-pointers) and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. The Hopkins, Minnesota native finished with four rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks in 26 minutes.
Bueckers put up five points in the opening quarter, making a 3-pointer and two free throws in the latter part of the period to help UConn build a 22-16 advantage. She also had two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block during that span.
The guard scored three more in the second and her triple highlighted an 8-0 run that gave UConn a 30-16 lead. Bueckers had a block for the Huskies, who built a 19-point edge at the half.
Paige Bueckers didn't score in the third but UConn built a 57-37 lead. Her two jumpers in the fourth put her in double figures for the sixth straight game this season, which is a consolation for a so-so effort in the win against Marquette.
