Paige Bueckers hosted high school stars who got Gatorade National Player of the Year recognition in their sports. The UConn Huskies women's basketball star shared some fun time with the athletes during the chat on "We Got It" by Uninterrupted. She listened to the players and gave a powerful message.
Bueckers is getting ready for another season with the Huskies before heading to the WNBA to start her pro career. With Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese already out of the picture, she might as well be the new face of college women's basketball. Getting a nugget of wisdom from a player of her stature might have inspired the country's upcoming sports stars.
Here is what Paige Bueckers said to the high school stars about perfection:
“For me, it's like perfection is unattainable, so there's always something you can get better at. And I think you guys share the same mentality of always striving to be better. There's always somebody, if you're the best, there's always somebody who’s chasing you and if you're trying to get to the top, it's a grind."
The Gatorade National Player of the Year awards are annual honors given to the best high school players across the country in different sports. The categories include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball. While football and baseball are exclusively for boys and volleyball and softball are exclusively for girls, all the other awards have both male and female categories.
The winners Bueckers was interacting with were Konner Griffin (baseball), Maddie DiMaria and Ransford Gyan (soccer), Addisen Fisher (softball), Ayden Ames (volleyball), DJ Langway (football), and Daniel Simmons along with Addison Ritzenhein (Cross Country). The winners in basketball were Cooper Flagg and Joyce Edwards while the track & field awards went to Cristian Miller and Sadie Engelhardt.
Paige Bueckers' powerful post-defeat text to coach after losing to Caitlin Clark’s Iowa
Paige Bueckers came close to winning a national title with the UConn Huskies last season. But her efforts were thwarted by Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Final Four. After the heartbreaking defeat, Bueckers sent a powerful text to her trainer Darren McLinton.
"@paigebueckers The night of your Final Four loss to Iowa, we texted right after your presser. You said 'Back to work' and we discussed the plan and adjustments we were going to make this offseason," McLinton said in a post on Instagram.
McLinton, who is the CEO of the McLinton Basketball Academy, said that she has stuck to the plan ever since. Will she be able to get the national championship to UConn this time?
