The new Arkansas Razorbacks head coach, John Calipari, uploaded a picture of himself with his wife, Ellen, to celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary. The former Kentucky Wildcats head coach revealed via the post that Ellen had forgotten their wedding anniversary, and so they had to celebrate it without a cake.
He captioned the X post:
"Our anniversary!! Ellen forgot. So did Brandy. No cake!!"
Ellen Calipari grew up in rural Missouri in the Lake of the Ozarks country. John Calipari and Ellen got married in 1986. Before marrying John, Ellen was married to former NFL player Nolan Cromwell.
During an interview with the Kentucky Kernal, the couple's oldest daughter, Erin, described her mother as "the sassiest, wittiest person of all time."
"My mom’s this adorable, tiny woman, who’s always put together, and she always has her hair done, her makeup done, her outfits are perfect," Erin said.
She continued:
"My mom can change a tire, change the oil— my dad doesn’t know how to do any of that stuff."
John Calipari's wife Ellen addressed his move from Kentucky to Arkansas
After the departure of the longtime coach, the men's basketball team of the Razorbacks witnessed a significant change. Fans were eager to hear what the former Arkansas coach's wife had to say about the big move.
Therefore, she posted a video on Instagram talking about her and her family's time in Kentucky.
“I knew when [John Calipari] got the opportunity to coach at Kentucky, it was a huge opportunity and a huge honor, and I supported that. I've been here along the way watching him accomplish things, working tirelessly, winning a championship, recruiting…it's been endless, and it's been a great pleasure to be here,” Ellen Calipari said.
She added:
“We've been here for 15 years, which is hard to believe…so we will have a lot of fond memories of being in Lexington. It's been a very warm, welcoming place to be. It's been an honor being part of the university. And I hope we leave behind a lasting legacy for the things that both of us have done.”
She ended the video by saying:
“It's been my honor to be Mrs. Cal and make brownies for a lot of these guys who have come through here…thank you for everything you've done for myself and my family, and my roommate.”
John Calipari's wife called him her "roommate" and thanked all of their fans while acknowledging that saying goodbye to such a loving fan base was a hard task. Ellen also said that even though she will miss several things about Kentucky, she will support her husband in the next chapter of his life.
