Flau'jae Johnson joined Paige Bueckers for Overtime's Takeover event as coaches for the Next Up 5s. The guards coached their teams of high school basketball's best talents on Friday. Joining them on broadcasting were USC Trojans' JuJu Watkins and Arizona Wildcats' Jada Williams.
Johnson, who had been sharing snippets from the day on her Instagram Story, also added a short clipping of herself with the coaching team. She wrote:
"Name this group 4️⃣," tagging all the guards.
Following last year's win, Team Paige took the dub once again, beating Team Flau'jae 105-102. It was a closely contested team offering fans a glimpse into the star potential of the future of women's basketball. Some of the participants included GG Banks, Hailee Swain, Jerzy Robinson, Kate Harpring, Mia Pauldo and Mya Pauldo.
Flau'jae Johnson, Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins will enter the upcoming season as the faces of college basketball. The trio enjoyed exceptional seasons last year, with Watkins and Johnson leading their teams to Elite Eight. Bueckers and the UConn Huskies advanced till the Final Four before losing to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In May, reports suggested that the second season of ESPN's "Full Court Press" will feature the three guards, sharing their story. The first edition included Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso and Kiki Rice.
Flau'jae Johnson and the LSU Tigers prepare for their shot at the championship
In the offseason, Flau'jae Johnson explored more of her music career as the rapper released her debut EP, "Best of Both Worlds." She also enjoyed her time with her teammates as the Tigers took an educational trip to Greece and Croatia.
Now, after all the time off, Flau'jae Johnson is back to Baton Rouge, training for her junior college season. Johnson averaged 14.9 points,5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals last campaign.
After failing to defend their 2023 championship win, the Tigers will be looking to reclaim it next year. Johnson will be supported by Mikaylah Williams and Aneesah Morrow in this task, after they lost Angel Reese to the WNBA.
A championship win could also bring Flau'jae Johnson's college career to an end after the guard mentioned on her podcast that a win and a No. 1 spot in the WNBA draft would convince her to graduate early. However, the title win would be a tough task as teams like South Carolina, UConn and USC are stacked with heavy talent and would make LSU's journey hard.
