UConn coach Dan Hurley's wife, Andrea, gave a shout-out to her sons, Danny and Andrew Hurley, in her latest Instagram post. Both sons have followed in their father's basketball footsteps: Danny played for Dan’s alma mater, Seton Hall, while Andrew played under his father at UConn for four years.
"The loves of my life💙💙," Andrea captioned the post.
In a January 2023 interview with Fox News, Dan Hurley said he made an important career decision for his wife and sons. After four years as an assistant coach at Rutgers, Hurley moved back to high school coaching. He spent nine years at St. Benedict's Preparatory School and led it to become one of the top high school basketball programs in America.
"I stayed in high school coaching longer than I needed to for Danny Jr. and Andrew," Hurley said. "I wanted to be a parent that gave them love and time, to set an example for them.
"I did the Little League games, the Pop Warner, the CYO matchups. That all meant something to me. I don’t have a lot of friends, to be honest. Andrea and my boys are who I have, and they’re my world."
Dan Hurley shares his wife, Andrea's 'motivational tactics'
Dan Hurley has faced his share of losses in the last two championship-winning seasons. While UConn always rebounded from them, the coach shared that his wife does not go easy on him after a loss.
In an interview with Graham Bensinger, Hurley discussed the unique way in which Andrea motivates him.
"She has strange motivational tactics. ... You think the next morning she's gonna tell me that it's going to be okay," Hurley said. "She's telling me, 'You're a lousy coach, you acted like a baby last night, why don't you take out the garbage because you are no good at coaching."
Andrea then added more of her 'tactics.'
"You are a glorified gym teacher. You go in, you coach games, you don't perform surgery, you don't save lives."
Hurley will need more of these tactics as he prepares for a potential three-peat in the upcoming season. This run to the title will be tough as teams like Kansas and Alabama have made major moves in adding more talents to their roster.
