USC star JuJu Watkins is in her offseason, training hard for her upcoming sophomore year. She also took time to travel to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics, cheering on for Team USA, specifically the women's basketball team.
WNBA legend A'ja Wilson posted a photo dump of her time representing the U.S. in Paris on Thursday. From Snoop Dogg to Michael Phelps, Jordan Chiles and JuJu Watkins, the dump featured many former, current and future Olympians.
"Some favs from my camera roll 📸🤍," Wilson captioned the post.
After the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, this was Wilson's second Olympics appearance, and she has won gold on both occasions. Paris was Team USA's 10th gold medal, the most for any women's team.
With the Summer Olympics successfully wrapped up, people are already looking forward to the 2028 Olympics, which is set to be held in Los Angeles. And it could be the debut for the city's native, JuJu Watkins.
Diana Taurasi had expressed in one of the press interviews in Paris that she would be on the beach with beers during the 2028 LA Olympics. A'ja Wilson had also spoken about the possibility of a new roster in the next Games.
"Our roster is starting to look a little different. We're starting to build a new culture of USA basketball that's starting to shift but the standard is the same, we're still gold-minded. A breath of fresh air...it's going to be fun," Wilson said.
While she is still a sophomore in college, JuJu Watkins will be eligible for the WNBA draft in 2027. This gives her a year to gain professional league experience and make the 2028 Olympics roster. Watkins has also expressed her excitement at the Games coming to her home.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the USC guard said:
“That’s definitely a long-term goal of mine when I get done with my college career. Definitely something I’m looking forward to and having the chance to do that in my city would definitely be a dream come true.”
JuJu Watkins and the USC Trojans prepare for a potential championship run in the 2024-25 season
After leading the Trojans to the Elite Eight as a freshman last season, JuJu Watkins promised to get better and lead the team to a deeper run in the NCAA Tournament. In the offseason, coach Lindsay Gottlieb has made changes to the roster to assist Watkins in the quest.
Kiki Iriafen and Talia von Oelhoffen were added to USC via the transfer portal, and the team will also welcome its No. 1 ranked freshman class. Class of 2024 No. 6 ranked Kennedy Smith will debut this fall along with No. 13 Kayleigh Heckel, No. 16 Avery Howell and No. 54 Rian Forestier.
With the conference realignments and roster changes, the USC Trojans are the favorites to win the title in the upcoming season.
