Iowa women's basketball star, Jada Gyamfi, posted a photo on her Instagram showing off a new tattoo on Sunday, Jan. 26. The tattoo was inked under her ear and captioned:
"New ink."
Gyamfi was part of the Hawkeyes team that rolled over Washington 85-61 on Wednesday, Jan. 22. The Hawkeyes were coming off a five-game losing streak, with star player Lucy Olsen finishing the game with 20 points and six assists.
Gyamfi was in the game but did not make much impact. However, the senior forward remains a key team member, using her energy to support the team and improve their atmosphere.
"“If I'm the person that makes you laugh all the time and that's my role that's perfectly fine with me,” she said per The Gazette on July 18, 2024. “I'm just a hype man, which I love doing obviously. That's a great role.”
Jada Gyamfi talks about the difficulties she faced playing basketball
Jada Gyamfi is in the final year of her collegiate basketball career. The Hawkeyes forward has endured a difficult season so far, only averaging 2.4 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.1 assists on 75.0 percent shooting.
In an episode of Catching up with Jada Gyamfi on her YouTube channel, Taco-Bout Network, Gyamfi revealed the difficulties she endured playing basketball and how she overcame them.
"I would say, and not to sound like, ungrateful by any means, but being a collegiate athlete is very difficult. There's obviously a lot of perks and, like a lot of it is very great and it looks really great from the outside. But there are also a lot of difficulties with injury, mental health stuff," she said on Jan. 21. (5:17)
"I would say like mental health stuff is probably the most difficult part, " she continued. " And how I've overcome it, I would say just using my circle, like I have definitely more now than I did before. But I have a really good group of friends and like people who really care about me and understand me and what I need."
Gyamfi concluded that friends and relationships are the most important thing for a happy life. Rest assured the forward is making the most out of her final season.
