Miami Hurricanes Hanna and Haley Cavinder are in holiday spirits as they shared a throwback photo with Santa Claus on their Instagram story on Friday. The post also included their sisters Brandi, Brooke and Natalie.
The Cavinder twins' preparations for Christmas began earlier in November as they shared pictures from their living room decked with a tree and lights.
Hanna and Haley Cavinder are playing their final college season with the Miami Hurricanes. They initially chose to move away from basketball after their senior season, but the passion remained and so they are back in Miami for one last run.
During their previous season with the Hurricanes, Hanna and Haley Cavinder led the team to the Elite Eight, the program's first in history. With their return, Miami coach Tricia Cullop has set similar expectations for the 2024-25 season.
“They both are so talented, have great work ethic, they have a great history here," Cullop said. "I’m thrilled to have both of them back."
"They were both part of the Elite Eight experience, and that’s a goal for us. They can show the rest of the players, 'This is how we do it. They are two of the hardest workers I’ve ever been around."
In addition, Hanna and Haley Cavinder aim to keep increasing attendance at the Watsco Center, capitalizing on their wide fan base and the growing popularity of college basketball.
“Women’s basketball is exploding, it’s going to help women’s sports in general," Hanna said. "Just being able to do our part, getting fans out to our games. We’re promoting it as much as possible.”
Miami Hurricanes take home the first loss of the season as Hanna and Haley Cavinder struggle
After a seven-game winning streak, the Hurricanes lost to Vanderbilt 88-70 on Wednesday. It was not Hanna and Haley Cavinder's night, as they only managed to score eight and 13 points each. Haley had a team-high five assists though.
Speaking to the media after the loss, coach Tricia Cullop said:
“Twenty one turnovers and 17 offensive rebounds we gave them, those are two things we actually talked about that could not happen if we wanted to win. It’s a hard lesson, but it’s really early in the season and this is not the end of the world.”
After recovering from the loss, Hanna and Haley Cavinder are set to lead the Hurricanes against Bethune-Cookman on Sunday.
