Paige Bueckers turned 23 on Sunday. Her pictures from the celebrations were shared on Instagram by her teammates and fans. Bueckers was seen in a black cropped top and blue party hat with the words 'Happy Birthday BDB' on the wall behind her.
This picture was also shared by Kaitlyn Chen on her IG story (which is now unavailable). She transferred to UConn in the off-season after three years with Princeton. She is expected to be Nika Muhl's replacement.
Bueckers spoke about the role that Chen will play in a roster devoid of upperclassmen, as they are yet to be cleared after injuries last year.
"We're a very young team. We have a lot of new people ... a lot of second-year guys, so for her to be experienced and play a similar offense to what we have and similar concepts," Bueckers said.
"She's very smart and she knows how to play the game and she knows how to play amongst other good teammates.
"She's aggressive. I think we want her to be Kaitlyn like we didn't want her to come here to be anybody else. So she's still finding herself but she's doing a great job," she added.
Kaitlyn Chen shares her experience playing alongside Paige Bueckers
The Chen-Bueckers combination is expected to play a huge role in UConn's potential run to the NCAA championship this season. It looks like the partnership is off to a great start.
In an interview with CT Insider, Kaitlyn Chen spoke about what it's like to play alongside Bueckers.
"She plays with such great pace, and she's always in control and always knows what she is doing so I feel like there are a lot of little things that I find myself picking up from watching her play," Chen said.
"It's awesome playing with KK (Arnold) and Paige because they're such amazing players. I feel like it takes a lot of pressure off my shoulders. It's very easy because anyone can bring up the ball," she added.
Chen averaged 15.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.3 steals last season. She made 48.8% of her shots from the floor, including 32.8 percent from the 3-point range.
She will be making her UConn regular season debut on Nov. 7 against Boston University at the XL Center in Hartford.
