Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 recruit in the 2024 class, committed to join Duke in October 2023. Since then, college basketball fans are eagerly waiting to see the talented young prospect in action for the Blue Devils.
Last Wednesday, Duke's Instagram account shared some snippets of Flagg at the team's practice, giving fans their first glimpse of the 6-foot-9 forward in the Blue Devils colors. College basketball analyst Zion O. was impressed with Flagg's performance and shared the clip on his social media accounts.
"Yea Cooper Flagg is an absolute monster," Zion wrote on X.
"Very interesting that (coach Jon) Scheyer was running a lineup with Tyrese and Caleb on the same team meaning the point guard duties on the other team were on Cooper and Sion," Zion wrote in another post.
The five-star prospect joined Duke from Montverde Academy, where he had previously spent two years. In the 2023-24 high school season, Flagg averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.7 blocks per game for Montverde.
"Cooper Flagg stands out from the crowd for his versatility, intensity and commitment to playing on both sides of the ball," Eric Rossi, 247Sports Director of Basketball, said.
"In a situation where he was the lone star player, he would put up monster scoring numbers, but his selflessness and ability to still produce at a high level on a very complete roster really stands out."
In 2024, Cooper Flagg was named the National High School Player of the Year, received the Naismith Prep Player of the Year award and was honored as Mr. Basketball USA.
Jon Scheyer's Duke stacked roster ft. Cooper Flagg ahead of the 2024 season
Duke Blue Devils coach Jon Scheyer, just in his third season with the program, is already looking to bring the NCAA championship back to Durham, North Carolina.
Scheyer joined Duke in 2014 as an assistant coach, won the championship in 2015 and became the head coach in 2022. Last season, the Blue Devils boasted a 27-9 overall record and made it to the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
For the 2024-25 season, Scheyer is not messing around and has assembled a team of pure talents, with many even calling it the most talented Duke freshman class in history.
A few of the new freshmen joining the school include a small forward Cooper Flagg, a 7-foot-1 center from NBA Academy Africa Khaman Maluach, a 6-foot-6 forward from North Mecklenburg Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel from Wisconsin Lutheran.
All four of these freshmen players have the potential to contribute to the team right from day one. They will be joining established players such as Caleb Foster, Tyrese Proctor and Sion James.
