"Prayers lifted for DV!": College hoops world shows support to Dick Vitale battling cancer for fourth time amid raising over $92M for V Foundation

Legendary announcer and ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale is set to undergo surgery to remove a cancerous lymph node in his neck. Vitale shared the news with his followers through a post on X while sharing his undefeated mindset. The latest diagnosis is Vitale’s fourth battle with cancer.

The 85-year-old battled with lymphoma in 2021, months after getting melanoma removed through multiple surgeries. Last year, Vitale shared that he had vocal cord cancer. He once again became cancer-free after undergoing radiation treatment.

From hospital stays to small updates from doctor visits, Vitale has regularly shared his championing journey with fans through social media. So, as soon as the college basketball world learned Vitale’s update, they united on X to wish him luck:

"Prayers lifted for DV!," Dave Shore, the CEO of ALS organization wrote.

"Keep Fighting Coach! We all need to fight this together," a supporter commented.

"God will definitely see him through 🙏," another fan quipped.

Meanwhile, Vitale's well-wishers came through to highlight the monumental impact he has had on the world:

"Great tribute he’s been my hero since childhood and to this day the reason I get behind the mic with the hope someday I can do it for a living. Now it’s our turn to get behind him. We love you DickieV!," a fan wrote.

Dick Vitale hopes to cross $100 million mark for cancer research

For the past 19 years, Dick Vitale has been organizing annual Galas to raise money for pediatric center research and for the V foundation. It houses some of the most notable names in the sporting and entertainment world.

The 2024 event raised nearly $25 million, making Vitale’s total contribution around $93 million.

The 20th Annual Dick Vitale Gala is slated to happen on May 2, 2025 (Friday) at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota, where Vitale hopes to cross the $100 million mark.
