Flau'jae Johnson pushed LSU Tigers (21-1, 6-1 Southeastern Conference) back to the winning bracket by leading the team 64-51 past Texas A&M (10-9, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) on Sunday. She scored 22 points in 30 minutes alongside five rebounds and four steals on 7 of 18 shooting.

While Kim Mulkey's crew shot only 38.4% from inside the arc and 3 of 20 from the 3-point line, they held the Aggies to just 31.4% shooting. They won the rebounding battle 52-33, pressurized the paint more effectively and garnered 10 steals.

However, Johnson believes that the squad has the potential to synchronize better defensively.

"I think we could have did way better, we had a couple defensive lapses ... So, we got to clean that up on defense," she said (1:08 onwards).
"We put them at the free throw line, so you take away those free throws they score about 10 points in the first half ... We are a good defensive team but we don't want to be good we want to be great."

The Tigers gave up 12 fouls in the first half, sending Flau'jae Johnson, Aneesah Morrow and Mikaylah Williams to the bench with two each a few minutes before the break. Even though Texas A&M outscored LSU 9-3 in the stretch, freshman Jada Richard helped hold the fort till the break.

"I was really happy about Jada, she's just so confident ... So, we just believe in her to be able to make decisions even as a freshman ... Scoring went down a little bit but that's expected as well but I think that Jada really managed the time really well," Johnson said (01:53).

Flau'jae Johnson points at the lessons learned from the loss against South Carolina

The Tigers are coming off their first loss of the season on Sunday, losing 66-56 at the Colonial Life Arena. After the game, Gamecocks' team DJ T.O. played the instrumental of the song "Cut Friends", a song composed by Flau'jae Johnson's late father Camouflage.

The LSU guard questioned South Carolina's move in an X post.

"I’ll take my L on the chin, but this just nasty behavior. Nun funny bout that," she wrote.

While Johnson did not directly address the incident after the win over Texas A&M, she focused on the importance of mental resistance and remaining competitive on the court.

"Mental has to be 10 times the physical to play these games and it's the SEC, you playing good teams every night," she said (at 3:28). "You got to be mentally sharp, you got to let the last game go and you got to focus on what's in between the lines."

Flau'jae Johnson then pointed out the avoidable mistakes LSU committed on Friday, mentioning 17 turnovers, giving up 26 free throws and more. With that, she appreciated the Tigers' ability to bounce back, take accountability and adapt against Texas A&M.

"From an execution standpoint, I think that we made adjustments better," she said (at 6:42). "We seen how they was guarding low stack, coach said, 'bring them up,' we brought them up and we executed on different plays. I think that was real mature of us to just get some things changed within the flow of the game.
"Sometimes you kill the flow of the game with a timeout. So, us being able to make that and execute. I thought that was big for our team. That's what we got to do more of."

Flau'jae Johnson also addressed her recent form, saying that she is having difficulties maintaining a stable release point in contested and directional fadeaway shots.

The LSU Tigers will now host No. 15 Oklahoma Sooners (16-4, 4-3 SEC) for its fourth ranked game on Thursday, starting its toughest nine-game stretch of the season.
