Duke commit Darren Harris will undergo surgery for broken hand

Incoming Duke freshman Darren Harris underwent surgery for a fracture on his non-shooting hand, as announced by Duke Men's Basketball on X on Friday afternoon. The young athlete suffered the injury over the summer and is expected to make a full recovery.

Aside from the post, there are no additional details about the current condition of the Virginia native.

During his time at Paul VI High School, Darren Harris was a consistent offensive force. He averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.9 steals per contest. Aside from that, he further proved his long-range shooting abilities by winning the City of Palms Classic 3-point contest in Fort Myers, Fla last year (via Sports Illustrated).

The 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward beat out a lot of highly touted prospects by scoring 21 points in the first round and then icing the title with 16 in the final. Here's a clip of him competing in the aforementioned contest:

If Harris's performance in the 3-point contest is any indication, he can be a major threat from deep for the Blue Devils. For now, he will need to work his way up to 100 percent after the surgery. He's ranked as a four-star recruit by ESPN and is considered the eighth-best player at his position in the country. 247Sports ranks him as the 37th-best player in his class.

Apart from Darren Harris, who else is coming in for Duke?

Fortunately for Duke, they won't have to rely solely on Darren Harris to buoy up their team once the 2024-2025 season rolls around. The Blue Devils are expecting a few more folks to come in and shore up the lineup, with none being more heralded than consensus five-star recruit Cooper Flagg (via 247Sports).

Aside from him, the Blue Devils have secured other five-star recruits, including South African center Khaman Maluach and forward Isaiah Evans and Kon Knueppel. Young big man Patrick Ngongba II rounds up the incoming freshman class.
