St. John's guard Simeon Wilcher caused a stir on social media with his antics during the Red Storm's game against the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday. With 17 seconds to go in the game, the Red Storm enjoyed a healthy 70-60 lead, and Wilcher saw an opportunity to try something spectacular.
Wilcher stood in the Bulldogs' half with no player in front of him and decided to set himself up for a wild dunk. While the 6-foot-4 guard got the set right, he failed to make the dunk by a matter of inches, drawing a collective gasp from over 5,000 people seated in Carnesecca Arena that afternoon.
The Bulldogs immediately went the other way, with Patrick McCaffery grabbing the rebound of Wilcher's failed dunk to pass the ball to Pierre Brooks, who made a layup to cut the Red Storm's lead to eight.
Besides Wilcher's failed dunk, St. John's coach Rick Pitino had a stoic reaction at the final buzzer, which drew reactions from college basketball fans. Some fans expressed their opinions on Instagram, believing Wilcher's failed dunk did not impress his coach in the slightest.
"Rick Pitino just had a stroke watching that," one fan wrote.
"No way Rick approved of this," another posted.
"Yk Pitino was pissed," another added.
Others took to mocking Simeon Wilcher, believing his attempt towards the end of the game was unnecessary.
"What a clown move," one fan wrote.
"I didn't like that moment," another posted.
"Wow that layup would’ve cover the game…. Holy Storm bettors," another commented.

RJ Luis Jr. was the star of the show for the Red Storm (12-3, 3-1 Big East), finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. St. John's will visit Xavier (9-6, 1-3) in its next game on Tuesday.
