It would be normal for young basketball players to acknowledge special messages from their role models. For Dylan Harper, this was especially the case when Kevin Durant provided him with one following a big announcement.

Harper, alongside teammate Ace Bailey, signed NIL deals with Nike on Nov. 14 as they got their collegiate careers underway earlier this month.

As a result, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant sent a message to Harper in a Nike video that congratulated the Rutgers freshman for siding with the iconic sports brand.

"Dylan. On this side, we raise the bar. Let's see what you got. I'll be watching. Welcome to the family," Durant said in the video's narration.

Harper reacted accordingly, appreciating the special message Durant gave him. He also said he was excited to begin his relationship with the Nike brand.

"Appreciate the love @easymoneysniper, Excited to be a part of the @nikebasketball family lets get it," Harper said in the post.

How Dylan Harper is playing this season, what's next for him and Rutgers

Dylan Harper came out of Don Bosco Prep as a consensus five-star recruit in the Class of 2025. Committing to Rutgers last December, he became the highest-rated recruit in the program's history.

He has not disappointed at the start the season for the Scarlet Knights. After two games, he is averaging 22 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals on 54.8% shooting from the field.

While his three-point shot and free-throw shooting is a work in progress, currently 20.0% and 57.1% in those areas, he has already performed above expectations. This is especially so with his ability to score the ball at will, especially inside the paint.

His last game against Saint Peter's was solid. Harper finished with 24 points, six rebounds and one assist on 8-of-17 shooting from the field as he was heavily involved on both sides of the ball. His performance propelled Rutgers to the 75-65 victory over the Peacocks.

Having a 2-0 record to begin the year, Dylan Harper and Rutgers will look to go 3-0 when they host Monmouth at the Jersey Mike's Arena on Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
