Sarah Strong and the UConn Huskies won their second straight game on Wednesday, crushing the Marquette Golden Eagles 77-45 in their New Year's Day showdown at Al McGuire Center. Four players scored in double figures for the Huskies, who improved their overall record to 12-2.
Strong led UConn in scoring and rebounding, collecting 15 points and seven boards. She shot 6-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Strong also had four assists and two steals in 32 minutes of action. It was the first time in nine games that the freshman forward didn't commit a single turnover.
Strong has scored in double figures in each of his first 14 games for the Huskies. She is UConn's second-leading scorer this campaign, averaging 17.2 points per contest. Strong only trails Paige Bueckers in that department.

Sarah Strong scored seven of her 15 points in the first half, helping the No. 7 UConn Huskies take a commanding 43-24 lead at the break. The Huskies cruised to victory after that to remain unbeaten in conference play. They have won their first three games against Big East opponents.
It wasn't just Strong who punished the Marquette defense. Fellow starters Paige Bueckers and Jana El Alfy also contributed, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively. Bueckers shot 4-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-5 from the three-point area. She also showed her defensive prowess, recording two steals and two blocks against the Golden Eagles.
KK Arnold provided the offense off the bench, scoring 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting. She was perfect at the charity stripe, knocking down all five of her free-throw attempts. It was the first time Arnold reached double figures in scoring in five games.
Skylar Forbes led Marquette, scoring 20 points and grabbing five rebounds in a losing effort. She shot 6-of-12 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. She was the only player to score in double figures for the Golden Eagles, who dropped to 9-4 with the defeat.
