Bronny James was selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft as the Los Angeles Lakers used the 55th overall pick to add him to their roster. The incoming rookie will make NBA history as he and his father, LeBron James, have a chance to become the first father-son duo to play in the league at the same time, while they will also be teammates.

Kiyan Anthony, who is the son of LeBron's long-time friend Carmelo Anthony, took to Instagram to show support for the Jameses' historical moment. He reshared a post from Overtime, which stated:

"DREAM COME TRUE!!! BRONNY JAMES IS A LOS ANGELES LAKER 🤩 🤩 🤩 @bronny @kingjames"

Anthony shared the post to his story while adding:

"say no more ‼️ ‼️ ‼️"

Bronny James played 25 games, making six starts, as a true freshman with the USC Trojans. The four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks in just 19.3 minutes per game, while shooting 36.6% from the field, 26.7% from three-point range and 67.6% from the free-throw line.

He is less than a year removed from suffering cardiac arrest, which caused him to miss the first eight games of the season. Bronny received plenty of praise for his performance during the pre-draft process.

Rob Pelinka discusses decision to draft Bronny James

There has been backlash around the Los Angeles Lakers' decision to draft James. Rob Pelinka discussed the decision with the media, stating:

"Bronny is first and foremost a person of high character and second, he is a young man that works incredibly hard and those are the qualities we look for in drafting players and adding to our developmental core with the Lakers. He had a great draft workout with us where he displayed those qualities to me in an hour lunch that we shared in the building just to get to know each other."

He continued:

"It became clear that he was a man of character. In terms of his work ethic, I think we've all seen that lived out, too. He's not a person that is ever taking short cuts or expected or been entitled about basketball opportunities. He's worked for everything that he's gotten, including being selected today."

Aside from drafting Bronny James, Pelinka and the Lakers also picked Dalton Knecht in the first round. Knecht was projected to be a top-10 pick, but he fell to the Lakers at 17.
