Sean Miller guides Xavier basketball to Sweet 16 in return to NCAA Tournament
Sean Miller had a successful tenure with the Xavier men's basketball program during his first stint when it was in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Miller led the team to the best record in the conference three times and a trip to the NCAA Tournament four times in five years. He guided it to the Elite 8 and the Sweet 16 once.
Miller's second stint with the program was more challenging as the Musketeers hadn't played an NCAA Tournament in five years. Miller took over and helped them to a 15-5 record in the Big East, second-best in the conference.
Xavier entered March Madness seeded third in the Midwest. It avoided major upsets against 14th-seeded Kennesaw State 72-67 in the first round and 11th-seeded Pittsburgh 84-73 in the second round.
Sean Miller's Xavier faces an uphill task in the next round against No. 2 seed Texas (28-8). Texas, which has won its past six games, finished as the second-best team in the Big 12 with a 12-6 conference record. If Xavier makes it out of Sweet 16, it will make its fourth appearance in the Elite Eight in team history.
