TCU center Sedona Prince was in tears during her postgame press conference after the No. 10 Horned Frogs' 90-81 win over UCF on Tuesday. Prince tallied 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the game at Schollmaier Arena.
When a reporter asked Prince about the journey she has been on for the past couple of years—surviving several injuries that threatened her career—she became emotional and opened up about the adversity she had to overcome.
"My personal career has been a journey, right? I was really lost and really scared and had no idea if I was going to play basketball again," Prince said (11:10). "For this opportunity to come here, into this amazing community where I feel at home, is such a blessing.
"To be able to grow and be around such loving, amazing people is incredible. It's unreal how far we've come. Like [coach Mark Campbell] always said, 'Just believe in it, keep working and it'll come.' So now, being here in this moment, is so unbelievably special."
Sedona Prince redshirted her entire freshman season at Texas in 2018-19 due to a leg injury she sustained at the IBA Americas U18 Championships. She missed the following season due to a waiver denial after transferring from Texas to Oregon.
The 6-foot-7 big made her collegiate debut for the Ducks in the 2020-21 season, but after two years, she faced another setback when she tore a ligament in her elbow. Last season, Prince returned to the court for TCU and averaged 19.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.
Sedona Prince powers TCU past UCF for 9th straight victory
Sedona Prince displayed her dominant inside presence, pouring 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting to lead TCU to a 90-81 victory over the UCF Knights. The Horned Frogs have now won nine consecutive games, improving their record to 18-1 (6-0 Big 12).
This was Prince's fourth consecutive game scoring at least 20 points, continuing her impressive stretch of performances. She began the scoring early with a jumper, setting the tone for TCU's dominant start. Half of her points total came in the final quarter as the Horned Frogs staved off a late UCF comeback attempt.
Sedona Prince also chipped in seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks to round out her stat line. After the Tuesday game, her averages stand at 18.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per contest. She even moved past Hailey Van Lith as the team's leading scorer. Van Lith managed 20 points in Tuesday's victory.
