Hannah Hidalgo had another huge game for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday. The sophomore guard scored 24 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals while shooting 40% in the 76-66 win. It was Hidalgo's seventh consecutive 20-point game and her 12th such game of the season.
However, the highlight of the game came from the guard's stunning layup near the halftime break. Hidalgo dribbled past Indya Nivar along the baseline to leap for an acrobatic finish around 6-foot-3 Ciera Toomey and 6-foot-2 Maria Gakdeng. When asked about her shot, the guard claimed that she had no idea where the layup came from.
Fans stormed the comment section of Hannah Hidalgo's highlight video to praise the guard's skills:
"Bro what do you do against that😭," a fan wrote.
"She hoops like Allen Iverson with Gary Payton defense 🗣️💪🏾," another fan commented.
"Unbelievable, that’s what that was!!!! 👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥," another fan wrote.
More fans joined in to commend Hidalgo's game:
"Z E R O. Surprise. @_oliviamiles_ is the real deal. That’s just her way. #boss," a fan commented.
"She’s gonna be the AI of the W. Insanely fun to watch…stop small to make a difference.," another fan wrote.
"Too athletic for her own good 🤣," another fan commented.
Hannah Hidalgo and Notre Dame are the only team to beat USC Trojans and UConn Huskies this season
Notre Dame might not be the top team in the AP Poll, but it has defeated two of the biggest contenders for the 2025 NCAA championship: the USC Trojans and the UConn Huskies.
With Hannah Hidalgo posting better outings than JuJu Watkins and Paige Bueckers, the Fighting Irish won the contests with double-digit scoring differentials. She scored 24 points, eight assists six rebounds and five steals in the 74-61 win over the then-No. 3 Trojans. Three weeks later, she dropped a 29-point and 10-rebound double-double against then-No. 2 UConn for a 79-68 win.
Hannah Hidalgo is also leading Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins on the NCAA season scoring leaderboard. Her 26.0 points per game are No. 2 overall in the nation, putting her above Watkins' 25.2 (#3) and Bueckers' 20.3 (#17).
