Flau'jae Johnson shared that she and the LSU team pulled the 'just give me my money' prank on their coach, Kim Mulkey, during their trip to Europe this summer. Johnson told the story to UConn star Paige Bueckers, who appeared on an episode of Johnson's Best of Both Worlds podcast uploaded to YouTube on August 23.
Despite it being one of her funniest memories from the team's Santorini trip, Johnson apologized to the coach for putting her on the spot.
"We tried to do it on our assistant coach, coach Starky, but he be on TikTok," she said. "He is the oldest man I know that be on TikTok but he didn't fall for it but I knew coach Mulkey was going to fall for it, she don't do social media. It was the funniest thing ever, she went viral. She was lowkey mad," Johnson added.
"She told me I wasn't going to play now since I did that trend on her. So, I guess that's what you do for the views. Coach Mulkey, I'm sorry," she followed. (30:18)
The LSU Tigers went on a 10-day overseas trip to Greece and Croatia. The student-athletes received class credits for their cultural immersion experience. Alongside haunts like Split, Dubrovnik, Athens and others, Flau'jae Johnson could not help but speak vividly about Santorini on the podcast.
Moreover, she even claimed that she could already picture herself in her wedding gown on the Aegean Sea island.
Flau'jae Johnson will have added responsibilities for Coach Mulkey's team this season
Johnson is coming off averages of 14.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.0 blocks last season. Moreover, as she made 50.4% of her shots, it became a highly improved stretch for the guard.
Now, as the Tigers near the 2024-25 season, Flau'jae Johnson will be asked to deliver an even sharper all-around performance. The Tigers’ previous star, Angel Reese, has transitioned to the WNBA. Moreover, standout point guard Hailey Van Lith has transferred to TCU.
With that, Flau'jae Johnson becomes one of the most experienced guards on Coach Mulkey's roster, and potentially with the biggest upside. Her number will naturally increase as she gets more opportunities this season. However, another way to improve her production can be to rely on three more than ever.
