Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo's incredible over-the-head pass to Olivia Miles has been the talk of the internet over the past several days. The video of her making the play against the Texas Longhorns last week went viral.
Overtime released a video on Wednesday, featuring Hidalgo and senior forward Maddy Westbeld discussing her unbelievable pass. In the video, the 5-foot-6 guard shared her immediate reaction and thought process as she made the pass.
"Liv, did you know the ball was coming to you when I threw it over my head?" Hannah asked Olivia who was walking next to them behind the camera.
"Yeah," Olivia said with a smile.
"You knew it was coming? She knew," Hannah said. "As I was diving on the floor, I saw her through my peripheral vision. I knew she was running. I saw her hand like this. I was like, she's about to take off. So when I dove for her, I was like, this is going to get it wherever I put it, she's going to get the ball. It's kind of cool. It's kind of cool."
Early in the second quarter, when the Irish were leading 24-22 against the Longhorns, Hannah Hidalgo dove for a loose ball, flinging it over her head to find Olivia Miles for the layup.
Hidalgo scored a game-high 30 points while contributing 8 rebounds and 4 assists as No. 8 Notre Dame defeated No. 6 Texas 80-70. Miles tallied 18 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists.
Hannah Hidalgo reacts to her 1,000th career point
Notre Dame sophomore Hannah Hidalgo reached a milestone by scoring the 1,000th point of her career against Syracuse on Sunday. She achieved the feat in her 44th game as a collegiate athlete, which is the fastest in school history.
"It’s truly a blessing to be able to reach that goal considering all of the guards like Arike [Ogunbowale], Skylar [Diggins-Smith], Jewell [Loyd] that have come through this program," Hidalgo said. "I’m honored to have this accolade."
The New Jersey native went to the game with 13 points needed to reach the 1,000-point mark. She scored 24 points against the Orange to notch 1,011 points for her career, surpassing the previous record held by Beth Morgan, who reached the milestone in 60 games.
Hannah Hidalgo is tied with USC’s JuJu Watkins for the second-highest scoring average this season, with both averaging 24.6 points per game. Notre Dame's next game will be one of the must-see matchups of the year, a top-10 clash with undefeated UConn on Thursday.
