In May, Hall of Famer and former LSU Tigers player Seimone Augustus joined coach Kim Mulkey's staff as an assistant coach. The Baton Rouge native was a hometown hero as she led the Tigers to three straight Final Four appearances. Among the many awards, she won the Naismith College Player of the Year and SEC Player of the Year twice.

On Thursday, the team's account posted a video of Seimone Augustus in action, leading practice sessions for the upcoming season.

"Coach Money Mic’d Up," the caption read.

Fans in the comments were excited about her coaching, with some even predicting that she would replace coach Mulkey when she retires.

"I love it. She will take over once Mulky hangs it up in 1-2 more years," one fan wrote.

Seimone Augustus played for LSU from 2002-2006. She was picked No. 1 in the 2006 WNBA draft and played in the league for 14 years till 2020. For one season (2021–2022), Augustus was the assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks.

Coach Kim Mulkey comments on the chances of Seimone Augustus taking over after her

This is not the first time that Seimone Augustus has raised hopes of taking over the head coach position of the Tigers. At the time of her appointment, many speculated that it was a move from LSU to secure a candidate for its future and Coach Mulkey commented on it.

“Obviously with her being an LSU person and playing here and all the things, you know, people are going to automatically think that,” Mulkey said to On3 in May.
“But I think Seimone will quickly tell you she’s getting ready to learn from people who have been in the business a lot longer than her, things that I can’t teach her that they will teach her.”

Mulkey also added that she has hopes for each person in her coaching staff to become head coaches at schools across the country.

When Augustus was asked the same question, she said:

“I hope to be a head coach one day, but if it’s here, so be it. If not, obviously you see the expansion in the W. It would be great to go back. But day by day, that’s all.”

The Tigers are up for a huge task in the upcoming season as they try to reclaim the NCAA title. Augustus did not win one during her time as a player, so there's hope that she can do it as a coach.
