Jada Gyamfi spent two years playing alongside Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin. With the two latter players now in the WNBA, Gyamfi seems to be missing her friends. The forward hosted Las Vegas Aces' rookie Martin on her "Fresh Tawk" podcast, where the two discussed life at Iowa and now, away from each other.
After their last game in April, Gyamfi and Martin accompanied Clark on WNBA draft day. After Martin and Clark were drafted, they got busy with their WNBA duties, and Gyamfi shared that meeting them since has made her extremely emotional.
"I got to not be so emotional every time I see you because I want to cry every time I see you," she said (Timestamp 5:46).
"And it's so weird. Caitlin, I got to see her this weekend on Saturday. We sat down the couch and I was just like holding her hand and just rubbing her shoulder, smelling her cheeks and her hair. Like, scratching her head, and I'm like, 'Oh look at you!', because it's so weird."
After two low-performing seasons with the Hawkeyes, Gyamfi is preparing for her junior year. She is expected to have a slightly bigger role in the team. In 20 appearances last season, the forward averaged 1.4 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists in 4.0 minutes of game time.
Kate Martin reveals the one thing she misses about living with Jada Gyamfi
In the same interview, Martin shared that living away from each other is something she is struggling to get used to. Talking about how all Hawkeyes players lived in the same apartment complex, Martin said:
"It's just a little sad how life goes on and people, you just have to move on. You get so used to life being a certain way. We all lived in the same apartment complex. I could walk up two flights of stairs and just literally you (Jada Gyamfi) were right above me, two flights right above me.
"I could hear when you would flush your toilet. Like, when we' get home at like 2 a.m. from a long trip, and I text you, 'Hey, did you just use the bathroom?' You'd be like, 'I sure did.' It's so funny and then now, we're a flight away, 20-hour drive away from each other."
Martin also gave Gyamfi a peak into what adulting is like when she shared how she had to pay for her medical expenses even after insurance and buy contact lenses herself.
