Haley Cavinder has long been a standout in women's college basketball, earning recognition as one of the sport's top talents. This acclaim was vividly demonstrated with a prominent billboard display in the heart of New York City.
On Saturday, Cavinder shared an Instagram story featuring her image on a digital billboard in Times Square. Representing the Miami Hurricanes as one of their star players, she succinctly captured her excitement with just three words.
"So surreal! DREAMS," Cavinder said.
How did Haley Cavinder and the Hurricanes perform against the Tar Heels
Haley Cavinder and the Miami Hurricanes faced the No. 17 North Carolina Tar Heels on Sunday, but unfortunately lost 69-60. Despite the defeat, Cavinder had a solid performance, recording a double-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. She shot 6-of-14 from the field and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.
However, Miami's lack of ball security significantly impacted the game. They committed 15 turnovers compared to just four by the Tar Heels and shot only 54% from the free throw line, leaving valuable points behind that could have made a difference.
This season, Cavinder is averaging 18.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists, with a 49% shooting accuracy overall and 25% from downtown. She has scored in double digits for nine consecutive games, averaging 21.5 points over the last four, highlighting her importance to Miami's offense.
Despite Sunday's loss, Miami holds a strong 11-2 record. They average 74.2 points on 46.5% shooting from the field, outscoring opponents by an average of 9.9 points per game.
In addition to Cavinder, Cameron Williams is averaging 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds, while Jasmyne Roberts contributes 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
With their 2024 schedule now complete, Haley Cavinder and the Hurricanes are looking forward to their next away game against Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
