As a former student manager at Indiana under Bob Knight, Dusty May had some unique experiences with the late coaching legend. One of them involved a unique drink combination.

During a quick Q&A session with ESPN's Jay Bilas on Thursday, one of the questions the Michigan coach was asked revolved around the most bizarre request he got from Knight at the time. May's answer brought laughs from Bilas and people in the background.

"The concoction of chocolate milk and Mr. Pibb. It formed some type of choc-ola," he said.

Dusty May brought Michigan back to tournament contention

After six seasons of coaching the Florida Atlantic Owls, leading them to two NCAA Tournament appearances which includes a run to the Final Four in 2023, Dusty May took a huge responsibility when taking his talents to Ann Arbor.

Michigan had gone through a rough 2023-24 season under previous coach Juwan Howard, a former Wolverine who was part of the famous "Fab Five" squad. Despite winning a Big Ten conference championship and two NCAA Tournament berths, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2021, the Wolverines significantly regressed as they went 8-24 in Howard's final year, prompting his dismissal.

They hoped to start anew with May at the helm, and so far, they are on the right track. They are coasting with a 12-3 overall record, being on a roll with four straight wins.

The No. 24 Wolverines are averaging 84.7 points on 51.9% shooting from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc, beating opponents by a convincing margin of 17.1 points per game. Their rebounding and playmaking stand out, grabbing 39.1 rebounds and creating 18 assists in the process.

Vladislav Goldin, who followed May from FAU after three seasons with the Owls, leads the Wolverines with 15.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.2 assists per contest. Tre Donaldson comes next with 13.1 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds while Danny Wolf provides a double-double of 12.5 points and 10.2 rebounds.

Halfway through the season, May's first season at Ann Arbor seems to be on pace for success. He already surpassed the team's win total from last year, as he looks to get the program at least an At-Large bid to the NCAA Tournament should they continue their winning ways.

Dusty May and the No. 24 Wolverines will prepare for their next matchup against the Washington Huskies at the Crisler Center on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. ET.
