South Carolina HC Dawn Staley has animated reaction to Aja Wilson's block on Kamilla Cardoso: "I'm gonna fight"

The South Carolina head coach, Dawn Staley, is a proud coach who has produced many talents that are now conquering the WNBA. Her top student, A'ja Wilson, has proved to be one of her best proteges as she has won two WNBA championship titles and a Finals MVP award.

Except for Wilson's, Staley's recent star student was Kamilla Cardoso, who helped the Gamecocks win the 2024 NCAAW championship title. Now in the Chicago Sky squad, Cardoso and the team lost against Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, 95-83 on June 28.

Wilson scored 31 points and was able to dominate on the Sky. Dawn Staley, who was watching the game, was hyped to see her best college athletes battle against each other.

In an Instagram live video, fans could see her reaction to A'ja Wilson blocking Kamilla Cardoso's shot. Staley said:

"The game is on, oh Kamilla! Oh no, don't do that to Kamilla! Do not do that to Kamilla. I'm gonna fight, I'm gonna fight, I'm gonna fight."

Dawn Staley will be honored at the ESPY Award alongside Prince Harry and Steve Gleason

The ESPY Award is organized, presented, and broadcast by the ABC Network to honor sports and college personalities who have excelled in their respective fields. It was announced that the South Carolina Gamecocks head coach, Prince Harry, and former NLF star Steve Gleason will get honored with different accolades.

Dawn Staley will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, Gleason will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, and the Duke of Sussex will be honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service.

Unlike other awards that recognize the on-field impact of sports personalities, the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance will be given to the head coach for her role in the fight against cancer and also for her success and advocacy for women's sports. Staley has been an astute and strong voice for cancer research.

She has been an open supporter and an advocate for 'Be the March,' which encouraged people to register to become bone marrow donors. Staley's sister, Tracey Underwood, has received a bone marrow transplant from their brother after getting diagnosed with leukemia.

After experiencing a highly successful college basketball season, the coach will be recognized for her on-field and off-field efforts on July 11, 2024.
