WNBA rookies Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky and Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever have renewed their intense battle in the WNBA after years of gripping the college hoops fandom with their unique rivalry. National championship-winning coach Dawn Staley of the South Carolina Gamecocks, who will have former players like Aaliyah Boston and Kamilla Cardoso involved in the game. She will tune in for the game as she gave her predictions for how the clash would pan out, tweeting:
"4 ovetimes! 2 double-doubles from @Kamillascsilva @aa_boston. Want @v5axton to play and add to this! 1 each 3ptr….not a game winner but that would be nice. 7 blocked between the three @GamecockWBB. After this may the team that has the ball last wins! Can’t lose like this," Staley tweeted.
The Angel Reese versus Caitlin Clark show arrives in the WNBA
Many fans and analysts questioned whether the popularity of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark would translate into the WNBA. After their first month as rookies, the statistics are out, and the numbers don't lie.
According to the numbers provided by the WNBA, May was the most attended month (400,000 attendees) in the history of the league, with 94% average capacity, while the average viewership tripled from 462,000 last season to 1.32 million this season.
More than half of the played WNBA games in the month of May sold out, which is 156% more than last year. The WNBA also released a stunning statistic in the report for the month of May.
"WNBA social channels garnered 157 million video views through the first week of the season, the most viewed WNBA tip-off week on social media ever and up 380% vs. last year," stated the report.
It will be an intense matchup, considering the fact that Caitlin Clark getting knocked down by Sky's Chennedy Carter in the first matchup has produced some of the league's most intense discourse over her treatment so far.
Angel Reese was also pictured celebrating the controversial moment from the sidelines showing that the grudge match between the pair is well and alive from their college basketball days.
It was difficult to predict that a fiery women's college basketball national championship game would snowball into one of the game's greatest rivalries that's having a real-time effect on the WNBA.
