South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley had an illustrious career as a basketball star at the University of Virginia, where she played for the Cavaliers from 1988 to 1992. She showed hooping prowess and was awarded the Naismith College Player of the Year twice (in 1991 and 1992).
She is one such player from the Cavaliers' women's basketball squad that has seen immense success. Hence, to recognize her efforts as the star who led the Cavaliers to three consecutive Final Four appearances in the NCAAW tournament, Virginia launched a special Dawn Staley jersey.
The X account of the team wrote:
"Any [Dawn Staley] fans in the building? We’ve got an exciting launch coming soon. Proceeds will directly support NIL efforts for student-athletes."
Staley replied to the post and asked fans to buy the jersey as soon as possible.
"Yall better get them before I buy all of them! Christmas is coming and I like to shop early, often and plentiful!!!"
Dawn Staley danced with former and current South Carolina players in an IG story
Now as a college basketball coach who has won the NCAAW championship title thrice, she was seen enjoying her time with former and current Gamecocks players.
LeLe Grissett, the 2021 NCAAW champion, shared an Instagram story where she and current players, MiLaysia Fulwiley, Adhel Tac, and Sania Feagin, were seen chanting a song. Then Staley swiftly joined them and danced with her student-athletes.
"They playing my song," Dawn Staley said.
Apart from making merry with her students, she also organized a watch party with some to enjoy the Chicago Sky vs. Las Vegas Aces matches. While watching the game, she got fired up when A'ja Wilson blocked Kamilla Cardoso's shot.
The Gamecocks head coach always supports and has fun with her squad from time to time. The star coach enters her 24th year of coaching and has been with South Carolina since 2008.
