South Carolina guard Raven Johnson showed her appreciation for FSU's Ta’niya Latson after she scored 39 points in Florida State’s 93-85 win over the SMU Mustangs on Sunday. On Instagram on Monday, Overtime WBB drew attention to Latson’s performance, with Johnson showing her love for the guard in the comment section.

Raven Johnson, who has played guard for South Carolina since 2021, is a two-time NCAA champion with the Gamecocks (2022, 2024) and made the 2023 SEC All-Freshman Team. Ta'Niya Latson, who has played for Florida State since 2022, was the WBCA Freshman of the Year in 2023.

Ta'Niya Latson has been explosive for Florida State this season, averaging 28.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists on 48.3% shooting. Against SMU, Latson dropped a massive 39 points, with seven rebounds and three steals. She has put up 30 points or more in four of the last 10 games, leading the Noles in points and assists per game.

Ta'Niya Latson was on fire for Florida State as she scored a career-high 39 points against SMU on Sunday. FSU shook off a slow start by taking a 21-20 lead into the second quarter. Latson led the fight back to secure a 93-85 victory.

FSU coach Brooke Wyckoff had glowing words for Latson who sat beside her to face the media after the game.

“Super proud of Ta’Niya Latson,” Wyckoff said “Just the way she puts the team on her back so much and to get another career high, two career highs in a week. Not too shabby. I just want to congratulate her and say what a great job she did.”

Latson expressed her feelings concerning the milestone.

“Two career highs in one week, it feels amazing,” She said. “I just told Coach Brooke that I’m just falling in love with the game again, just watching a lot of basketball. I feel like that has helped me going into games and just focusing on how I can be better for the next level and for this program. And just letting the game come to me.”

Ta’Niya Latson had a career-high 38 points in a 79-77 loss at Tennessee on Thursday before stepping it up to 39 on Sunday.

The Seminoles (9-2) take on the Drexel Dragons on Sunday, with Latson eyeing another possible career high.
