USC Trojans stars JuJu Watkins and KiKi Iriafen participated in the USC Next Level Sports Conference at Inglewood’s Intuit Dome on Thursday. They were photographed with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and USC President Carol Folt in the pictures shared by the team on Friday.
"So proud to have had JuJu & Kiki represent us at the USC Next Level Sports Conference yesterday! ✌️," the caption read.
JuJu Watkins enjoyed a historic freshman season with the USC Trojans last year as she led them to the first Elite Eight appearance in 30 years. She broke multiple records and is expected to continue leading the team in her sophomore season.
Kiki Iriafen transferred to USC after three years with Stanford. With an NCAA championship under her belt, the forward is expected to help Watkins lead the team.
At the conference, Iriafen spoke about the importance of NIL and the efforts taken by the staff at USC.
“You still have to keep the main thing, but NIL is something that they also want us to benefit from. Not everybody on our team wants to continue to play professionally [after college], but our school and our coaches still pour into us and give us the resources that we need so that we can be successful off the court for years to come.”
JuJu Watkins is ready for the new conference experience
The USC Trojans, with UCLA, Oregon and Washington made the move to the Big Ten this offseason. With this, JuJu Watkins and Co. are set to start fresh assessing their opponents but the guard is more than ready for it.
"I wouldn’t really say pressure," Watkins said during Big Ten media day. "So many great teams in this league, and I think my main focus is just winning with my team. And wherever that takes us, we’re grateful. I’m grateful for this opportunity."
While she still has a few years before she is eligible for the WNBA draft, JuJu Watkins is already creating buzz with her potential. When asked how she is preparing for the move, Watkins said:
"Taking it year by year. That’s the only way you can really get through it. There’s so much I want to get done at this level. I don’t want to miss anything because I’m looking too far ahead."
"I think it gave me a lot of experience and perspective. I know what to expect to get back to that level," she added."I want to build off my success from the previous year. I know I still got things to work on. ... I know what the standard is and I know what to expect."
The USC Trojans will begin their 2024-25 season on Nov. 4 against Ole Miss.
