The showdown between Paige Bueckers' UConn Huskies and the Louisville Cardinals at Barclays Center on Saturday night brought out the stars. Basketball greats past and present flocked to Brooklyn to watch four NCAA teams compete in the inaugural Women's Champions Classic.
UConn legend Sue Bird watched the game courtside to support her former team. This wasn't the first time she has attended a Huskies game this season, with Bird also in attendance for Geno Auriemma's record-breaking 1,217th win as UConn coach.
Azura Stevens was another former UConn star in attendance for the game against Louisville. The Los Angeles Sparks star watched the contest alongside her WNBA teammate Rickea Jackson. The two players were there to promote their upcoming participation in the Unrivaled league, with Stevens representing Team Rose and Jackson playing for Team Mist.
Former Tennessee stars Andraya Carter, Chamique Holdsclaw and Diamond DeShields were also at Barclays Center to support the Lady Volunteers in their game against the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes.
UConn Huskies, Tennessee Lady Vols win in Women's Champions Classic
The No. 2 UConn Huskies and the Tennessee Lady Volunteers reigned supreme in the Women's Champions Classic, with both recording victories in New York.
The Huskies showed their class over the No. 22 Louisville Cardinals, crushing them 85-52. Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd starred for UConn in the victory, scoring 21 and 18 points, respectively.
They cruised to victory despite a low-scoring performance from Bueckers, who managed just eight points on 2-of-11 shooting. The Huskies improved their overall record to 8-0 with the win.
The Lady Vols, on the other hand, needed a late surge to record an 88-78 win over the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes. Tennessee outscored Iowa 43-33 in the second half to claim the victory.
Talaysia Cooper powered Tennessee's win, scoring 19 of her 23 points after halftime. She finished the game with six rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.
Ruby Whitehorn, Samara Spencer and Tess Darby also scored in double figures for the Lady Vols, who preserved their unbeaten record with a 7-0 slate.
