South Carolina's MiLaysia Fulwiley has drawn comparisons to Steph Curry for her flashy, creative and confident playstyle. Curry’s legacy as a four-time NBA champion is one of the main reasons Fulwiley committed to Dawn Staley's Gamecocks as ESPN HoopGurlz’s No. 3 point guard and No. 13 player in the country.
As Fulwiley continues to grow her following with her exciting playing style, she has also caught the eye of the two-time NBA MVP. In a Dec. 23 article by Lulu Kesin for The Greenville News, Steph Curry praised the sophomore guard's athleticism and flair.
The Golden State Warriors guard also sees similarities between his style and the 19-year-old’s game, claiming that Fulwiley has an imaginative approach on the court, along with a knack for demanding attention and embracing high-stakes moments.
“Her athleticism, her style and creativity just jumped off the screen,” Curry said. "She had that flashy kind of vibe.”
"Very similar to how I play, there’s a flair for the dramatic, a creativity that she always finds a way to express. She has a killer instinct."
Curry’s closer look at Fulwiley’s potential came in 2022 when she played for Team Curry in Charlotte, North Carolina, during her senior year of high school and participated in the Curry Camp held in San Francisco.
MiLaysia Fulwiley has a brand deal with Steph Curry's Curry Brand
MiLaysia Fulwiley's deal with Curry Brand made her the first collegiate athlete to be entrusted by the NBA superstar’s brand. The NIL deal also allowed the shoe company to extend its reach in the basketball world, months before De'Aaron Fox became the first player to have a signature shoe with Curry’s brand.
“When it comes to the ability to change the game for good, nobody can speak to that more than MiLaysia. She’s changing the women’s game on the fly with how she plays and moves on the court," Curry said.
Playing at an Under Armour school, MiLaysia Fulwiley will wear Curry Brand sneakers on the court throughout her college career. Off the court, she will serve as the brand ambassador and participate in marketing initiatives and player exclusives.
