Dan Hurley's UConn survived a massive scare from Xavier in a 94-89 overtime win on Wednesday night. The game was tied 78-78 at the end of regulation after the Huskies gave away a foul and let Xavier tie it up with 9 seconds left.

The score was 76-76, and UConn was on offense. Liam McNeeley was making a run inside the arc when Swain, who was marking McNeeley, made contact, which appeared to be just enough to warrant a foul call.

However, Hurley again became the focus of attention for his actions on the sideline. His animated reactions to the referee's foul call drew the ire of fans.

McNeeley then made both free throws to give UConn a lead which they would squander in the final seconds as Xavier forced overtime.

Fans on Twitter reacted to Hurley's angry reaction towards the officials:

"Dan Hurley having to go to overtime against a 13.5 point underdog Xavier…. And of course it’s the referee's fault: go eff yourself. Such a freaking crybaby," one fan wrote.
"Danny Hurley is completely unhinged. He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with the garbage he gets away with," another fan said.
"Will somebody tell Danny Hurley to not get angry over EVERY call?" a user tweeted.
"Just got a great look at Dan Hurley buying himself a game. What a weak call," another added.

Here are a few more tweets:

"Dan Hurley is going to keep acting like a lunatic until the refs grow a pair and T him up in a crucial situation. Until then, his antics won’t change," one fan stated.
"His theatrics and dramatics are exhausting. Every whistle becomes hyperbolic reaction fest. Either he's certifiable (plausible) or he's becoming a caricature of himself," one more added.

Dan Hurley responds to tweets about conference opener record

Since taking over the UConn Huskies in 2018, Dan Hurley has lost four of his first conference games — one in the American Athletic Conference and three in the Big East.

Many fans online pointed out this trend, calling out Hurley and his team on their conference opener record.

After the win against Xavier, Hurley fired back at the criticism in the postgame conference.

"I just want to thank anyone that tweeted this morning our record in [conference] openers," he said. "You almost talked that s**t into existence. So everyone should unfollow the people that did that today."

The Huskies lost to Seton Hall in their Big East opener last season, lost to Providence in 2021-22, fell to Creighton in 2020-21 and dropped the AAC opener against South Florida in 2018-19 under Hurley.
