Hailey Van Lith was part of the Louisville Cardinals squad in 2023 and led the team to the Elite Eight round of the NCAAW championship tournament. At the Elite Eight game against the Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes, HVL scored 27 points in a 97–83 loss against the Hawkeyes.
One of the most remarkable parts of the game was when the former Iowa star waved a hand in front of her face to imitate John Cena's "You Can't See Me" gesture.
The move stunned many fans as it became the talk of the night but Hailey Van Lith confirmed later that Clark only did so in good fun.
During an interview with Bleacher Report in June 2023, she was asked about her reaction to Clark's hand gesture. Hailey laughed it off and said:
"Right after the game, I texted her and I was like, 'the media is dumb. I'm sorry.' They just make stuff up and they just put it on the Internet and everyone thinks it's true. We were laughing about it because she did it to her strength coach.
She didn't do it to anyone on our team, especially me. I didn't even see in the game, I was probably, you know, dribbling the ball up the court after she just hit a three in our face. It's just funny how like camera angles and perceptions are skewed. It was hilarious, we laughed about it after, so my perception, like, I don't even have one."
After her run with the Cardinals, Hailey Van Lith transferred to the LSU Lady Tigers but this year she hit the transfer portal to play for the TCU Horned Frogs.
Hailey Van Lith and U.S. Women's 3x3 team get their fifth-straight win
The TCU Horned Frogs hooper made it to the U.S. women's 3x3 team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Even though the team experienced a difficult start, losing three initial games, they got back on track. Hailey Van Lith's teammate, Cierra Burdick said, as per The Dallas Morning News:
“USA basketball is not used to losing. So, when you lose three in a row, it’s like everybody is kind of shocked and everybody’s rooting against us.”
However, with focus and dedication, the team was able to clinch a spot in Monday's semifinals against Spain. There is a high possibility that the team will repeat its gold medal run at the Paris Olympics.
