Aaliyah Chavez is the top-ranked women's basketball prospect in the class of 2025. The Lubbock, Texas native has been in high demand from top programs across the country as she received scholarship offers from 27 schools, per 247Sports.

Earlier this summer, Chavez trimmed down her offers to the final six colleges, which include the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Texas Tech, South Carolina, and UCLA Bruins.

However, according to On3, LSU is no longer an option because her team has requested over a million dollars in NIL support from schools. This has left Vic Schaefer's Texas Longhorns as the supposed frontrunner to land the five-star guard, as reported by Talia Goodman of On3 Sports.

Aaliyah Chavez made an unofficial visit to Texas in October last year and is planning on a second visit this upcoming month.

"The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. ...#unofficial #notcommitted," Aaliyah shared on Instagram after the Texas trip last year.

Other programs are also pushing hard to secure her commitment. The Longhorns' state rival Texas Tech is anticipated to make a late push to land the Monterey High star.

During an appearance at the Run 4 Roses Tournament in Louisville this summer, Chavez spoke highly of the University of Texas.

"They were one of my first offers too, so just keeping them in. They’re close to home. They recruit me well. I think I talk to them almost every day too and they always have high energy," Aaliyah said.

Aaliyah Chavez on finding the right fit in college basketball

Aaliyah Chavez's stats at Monterey High School are surreal. Last season in varsity basketball, she averaged 37.8 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.5 steals in 35 games played. No wonder she received over 27 Division I scholarship offers.

However, Chavez is not in a rush to commit to a college yet. She shared her priorities for choosing a coach during an interview with On3 in July.

"The most important thing is to make sure I’m in a place where I have high energy," Aaliyan said. "I don’t want a coach that’s low energy, and I need to make sure that they’re going to be there the whole time [I am]. I don’t want a coach that’s just going to be there for two years… I want them to be there all four years."

Aaliyah Chavez will enter her final year of high school basketball this season. She received the Gatorade Player of the Year award for women's basketball in Texas last season.
