Deion Sanders' daughter, Shelomi Sanders, has been trying to find her feet in the women's college basketball scene. She first joined Jackson State, where her dad was the football head coach and then followed him to Colorado. After a season in Boulder, Shelomi is now going to Alabama A&M through the transfer portal.
In a recent video, Coach Prime’s ex-wife, Pilar Sanders, revealed the reason behind her daughter’s decision to play for JSU. According to her, being Sanders’ daughter came with a certain disadvantage. Pilar said that it robbed Shelomi of the whole experience of being recruited.
“So people who are in sports have a certain level of respect because of the time he did in the NFL and in baseball and whatever," she said. "And we were told about that, coaches told me about that, coaches told other professional athletes that we know about that.
"That completely stopped Shelomi short of having the whole experience of being recruited, which I thought was very unfair to her,” Pilar said in a video shared by her on YouTube."
Shelomi played for the JSU Tigers in 2022, under head coach Tomekia Reed, and helped the team finish 22-10. She only played two games that year before joining her father in the Buffaloes setup. A year later, she has left that behind and is returning to SWAC basketball at Alabama A&M.
Deion Sanders is not happy with Shelomi Sanders’ decision to transfer out of Colorado
While Shelomi Sanders let the world know about her decision to play for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, her dad, Deion Sanders, wasn't happy to know about it.
During an interview with DNVR Sports, the Buffaloes football head coach called his daughter’s decision ‘stupid.’
"It was stupid. You don't enter the portal. You get a team before you enter the portal. That's what I would advise a child,” he said on the matter.
Coach Prime also refuted any claims about him leaving Boulder to follow his daughter to the hill. He was cool and sound in Boulder and Shelomi’s decision to get away won't influence his decision to leave. Will the basketball star finally find her feet at the NCAA level?
