Nika Muhl described her time at UConn as the best of her life
Nika Muhl was a reliable star player for the Huskies, who played with the main squad. However, she decided that her time to play with UConn would come to an end in April. She declared for the 2024 WNBA draft and was selected by the Seattle Storm as the No. 14 overall pick.
Before Nika Muhl said goodbye to UConn, she and the school's director of women's basketball communication, Anna LaBonte, organized a special photoshoot with coach Auriemma and his black Mercedes.
"It was just a funny thing that we talked about," Mühl said, as per CIT Insider. "But then we talked about it more seriously and I was like, 'I'm not asking him. Someone else can ask him.' Anna asked him and we made it happen."
"I didn't want to do anything emotional or sad because I feel like I've had so many emotional moments this year that I wanted it to be something cool, something epic, something for people to see and not be sad but think, 'This is so cool.' So I'm the first player, first person to drive his Mercedes. Can you write that?"
Nika Muhl called her final year at UConn the most "emotional" one as she showed gratitude for the program.
"I'm forever grateful and thankful that I was able to share those moments with the whole team. And I'm so thankful to Coach and the whole coaching staff and the whole program, everybody, to be able to make that happen for me. I just felt like with all of that, it was the best year of my life."
During her senior year, Muhl played 39 games and averaged 6.9 points, 6.5 assists, four rebounds and 32.1 minutes per game. Her performance secured her a spot on the All-Big East second team.
