"The modern day Duncan/Robinson": Fans react to UConn star Donovan Clingan getting linked to Victor Wembanyama & the Spurs ahead of 2024 NBA Draft

UConn Huskies star Donovan Clingan is expected to hear his name called early in the 2024 NBA draft. Clingan played two years at UConn, winning the national championship in both seasons and has since declared for the draft.

The first round of the 2024 NBA draft is set for Wednesday, June 26. Heading into the draft, Clingan is expected to be drafted in the top 10. In ESPN's latest mock draft, the article mentioned the San Antonio Spurs have an interest in Clingan with the third overall pick.

"San Antonio has expressed increasing interest in Clingan as of late, even going as far as interviewing him in recent days to get to know him better," the article read. "Some think this might be a case of the Spurs signaling to rivals that the No. 4 pick is where they need to get to if they want to draft Clingan, as opposed to real interest in a fascinating twin-towers lineup with the 7-foot-3 UConn champion and 7-foot-5 Victor Wembanyama."

Although ESPN ultimately had San Antonio drafting Stephon Castle fourth overall, the interest in Clingan is legit, and college basketball fans reacted to the rumor.

"That frontcourt would be WILD," a fan wrote.

"The modern day Duncan/Robinson. Would be fun to see," a fan wrote.

Fans believe if the Spurs draft Clingan, the frontcourt will pose a lot of problems for the rest of the NBA.

"Wemby is already an alien, but now they're gonna have a Klingon? That's not fair," another fan wrote.

"no bruh this a cheat code," a fan added.

Other fans, meanwhile, wonder if a Donovan Clingan and Victor Wembanyama duo would work.

"Smokescreen so they can get either Stephon Castle or Cody Williams," a fan wrote.

"Yall weird. Spurs not drafting that dude. Spurs want Risacher anyone else yall lying," a fan added.

If Clingan does get drafted by the Spurs, it will be interesting to see how the fit would work with Wembanyama.

Donovan Clingan's college career

Donovan Clingan played two years at UConn but became an impact player this past season.

Clingan played in 39 games, all off the bench as a freshman, and averaged 6.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

In his sophomore season at UConn, Clingan became a starter as he played in 35 games, and started 33 of those. He averaged 13 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game as he was a key player for the Huskies winning the national championship.
