Paige Bueckers' UConn Huskies participated in the Baha Mar Championship earlier this week. In the first round, the Huskies faced Oregon State and won 71-52. On Wednesday, they played against Ole Miss for the championship and won 73-60.
A snippet of Bueckers and teammate Azzi Fudd's chat with the media during these games was posted on TikTok on Thursday. In the video, both argued over who should take a question from the reporter.
"You're so good, though. Please continue," Fudd said.
"No, you go. You haven't done media in like 2 years," Bueckers replied.
Fans commented on this exchange with one writing:
"The tension in this interview was CRAZY."
"Azzi's eyes when she said that!!," another wrote.
The UConn Huskies are on a six-game winning streak and are on a mission to win the NCAA championship. They last won in 2016 under the leadership of Breanna Stewart.
Paige Bueckers talks about playing with Azzi Fudd
When Azzi Fudd joined the UConn Huskies in 2021, her partnership with Paige Bueckers raised fans' expectations. However, back-to-back injuries to both players hampered their time together on the court.
After winning the 2024 Baha Mar Women’s Championship, Bueckers commented on her chemistry with Fudd.
"Honestly, it's a little weird. Cause we've wanted to for so long and now it's actually reality," she said (via Mirror US). "And so, I mean I feel like this is the first game where it kind of sunk in.
"She played a lot more, she looked like her aggressive self. Even the games we have played, I feel like we both weren't 100%, and so we're getting there. We don't want to take it for granted and think that this is just what it is. We want to enjoy every moment playing together and just enjoy playing with the team. This is a really fun group, I love this group."
This is Paige Bueckers' final season with the UConn Huskies, and she is expected to enter the 2025 WNBA draft. The guard is expected to be the first overall pick.
Bueckers wants to win her first national championship and the Huskies couldn't have started any better.
