Paige Bueckers is the only NCAA player to have custom sneakers with Nike
Paige Bueckers debuted her custom Nike GT Hustle 3 sneakers on Dec. 7 while facing Louisville, making her the first college athlete (men's or women's) to have a custom pair with Nike. She also gifted pairs of her first kicks to her UConn teammates and coach Geno Auriemma.
The sneaker is made of Bueckers’ favorite colors: white, purple, fuchsia and baby blue. The detailing also pays homage to her basketball journey, as the tongue features area codes "612" (Edina) and "860" (Connecticut).
"There are so many details that make this shoe special to me,” Bueckers said. "This is the perfect colorway for me. I love baby blue and lavender, and the Radial Knit makes me feel fly."
Some of the UConn Huskies players helped Paige Bueckers debut the kicks on Dec. 7.
Geno Auriemma has yet to slip into the sneakers and give his two cents. However, he approved the design and colorway before UConn's loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 10. The coach also revealed that the players find the shoes to be comfortable.
