Dan Hurley has himself caught in the headlines for his behavior towards officials. It seems he has made his thoughts clear on what happened with a recent appearance on a radio show.
Hurley garnered attention for his confrontation with a referee during No. 19 UConn's game against Butler on Tuesday, where the Huskies eked out an 80-78 victory. He was reacting to a foul that should have been called against the Bulldogs, angering Hurley as he approached the official.
"Don’t turn your back on me, I’m the best coach in the f***ing sport," Hurley said.
He made a post via X, showing he took part in the latest episode of the "Coach's Show" that will air on the iHeartRadio app Thursday at 6 p.m. ET. He promoted it with a six-word sentence, hinting he may have discussed the controversy regarding the moment.
"There was a lot to discuss," Hurley said.
Jeff Goodman criticized Dan Hurley for behavior towards officials
Dan Hurley's behavior towards the officiating received a lot of attention on social media and the mainstream airwaves, as basketball analyst Jeff Goodman did not hold back his thoughts on the incident.
"No matter whether you're pissed off at a call or not, no matter whether you think a ref sucks or not, there's a way to to deal with referees," Goodman said. "They're human beings. They miss calls. They're out there. And I think the other thing is, if you're yelling and screaming at these guys and chirping at them the whole time, I've always said this, it's much harder for them to do their jobs.
"If you're yelling and screaming at them while play is going on, yeah, it's going to be harder for them to focus and get calls, right? But just the way he talks to these guys, to me at times, is disgusting. It's disgusting. and it needs to stop."
UConn currently has a 14-5 overall record, including a 6-2 showing in conference play. They are producing 80.8 points on 49.4% shooting from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc, getting past opponents by a margin of 12.3 points per game.
Dan Hurley and the No. 19 Huskies prepare for their next matchup, facing the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
