Baylor has one of the top 2025 NBA draft prospects in V.J. Edgecombe but lost their opener against Gonzaga 101-63. However, their standout managed to deploy a highlight that is now trending all over social media. Freshman guard Edgecombe leaped over Zags’ Joe Few, son of Gonzaga’s coach Mark Few, to punch a poster during the closing minutes of the blowout game.
The clip has flooded social media platforms and has even ignited a reaction from ESPN's Malika Andrews and draft analyst Jonathan Givony.
As a thread on Reddit highlighted the powerful poster, college hoops followers stormed the comment section:
"There were 2 murders tonight in spokane," a fan wrote, referencing the blowout win and the dunk.
"Few is how I would describe Joe’s vertical, actually," another user commented.
"Ah a good ol Nepotism dunk. This is delicious," another fan wrote.
Moreover, other fans mentioned the 38-point scoring difference Edgecombe's Baylor lost to:
"East coasters are gonna wake up, read the title and think 'oh Baylor won' and then watch this and not see a score then realize later Baylor got crushed," a fan wrote.
"Anytime Joe Few is in a highlight, good or bad, it’s an amazing thing. It means the Zags are so far ahead that the highlight doesn’t matter," another fan commented.
"Just from this comment I assumed Gonzaga was the victim... How pleasantly surprised I was when I checked the scores just now. The Zags don't usually do the murdering in top 10 matchups," another fan wrote.
College basketball analysts did not like V.J. Edgecombe's debut
While fans rave behind Edgecombe’s hops, college hoops analysts Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish were unimpressed by the five-star guard’s debut outing. Given the one-sided score, his performance was closely scrutinized:
"It’s a minute 40 to go in a 40 point game, what the hell is V.J. Edgecombe doing in the game?,” Norlander asked on the Eye On College Basketball podcast.
"V.J. Edgecombe finished with four points. Those were two of them," he added. "Yeah, It wasn't the best debut that any freshman had last night," Parrish responded. (8:54)
V.J. Edgecombe scored only four points in 29 minutes while garnering seven boards, one assist and one steal.
