Jada Gyamfi had an emotional reaction to the Iowa Hawkeyes tribute video for former head coach Lisa Bluder. On Sunday, the program posted an exclusive video on its Instagram to celebrate Bluder's 24-year journey with the women's basketball squad.
Alongside Bluder's side of the story, the video also showcased honest opinions of former players like Gabbie Marshall, Kate Martin and Caitlin Clark.
As fans stormed the comment section to shower the former coach with love, junior forward Jada Gyamfi also chipped in. She also reposted the video on her IG story.
"Hey so this made me cry," Gyamfi wrote.
Jada Gyamfi is one of the Iowa players coached by both Lisa Bluder and her successor Jan Jensen. She joined the Hawkeyes in 2022 and played 28 games for the ex-coach over two seasons.
While Gyamfi was not heavily utilized on the court (3.7 minutes per game under Bluder), she was a huge locker-room asset. The forward's positive energy and attitude was a huge morale booster for the entire team.
Lisa Bluder retired this summer after leading Iowa to its best two-year stretch. Moreover, as she became the all-time winningest coach in Big Ten conference history, she led the Hakwyes to 22 postseasons, five Big Ten Tournament titles and two regular season championships.
Lucy Olsen reflects on being recruited by Lisa Bluder before retiring
Lisa Bluder's retirement came as a surprise for Iowa and college basketball fans. She announced her exit a month after the Hawkeyes' second straight trip to the NCAA national championship game. However, the coach ensured that she laid a solid path for the program upon her departure as she recruited transfer Lucy Olsen.
In the Nov. 7, 2024, episode of "Sometimes I Hoop" with Haley Jones, Lucy Olsen revealed that Bluder was the first coach to contact her in the transfer portal.
"I mean right when she called me I was like 'what,' cuz I had no idea," Olsen said (3:00). "And she didn't mention it, she didn't know yet. But when she was like 'Coach J is taking over' I'm like 'Okay.' I met her she was always there when I was with Coach Bluder, so I don't know if that was on purpose or not but she was always there."
Lisa Bluder also talked to Lucy Olsen's parents through a Zoom call before the then-Villanova Wildcats guard first visited Iowa. Bluder also spearheaded the formalities during Olsen Hawkeyes' visit, resulting in Olsen's commitment within a day.
Olsen has made a strong start to the season with Iowa. She is averaging 16.9 points and 5.2 assists, both of which lead the team.
