LSU assistant coach Seimone Augustus added another feather to her already-glittering cap after she was honored with the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in the Class of 2024. The basketball legend was presented with a jersey inscribed with "Hall of Fame 24" during the Tigers' game against Seton Hall on Tuesday.

Following the fifth-ranked Tigers' 91-64 victory, LSU shared snaps of Augustus being celebrated for her latest achievements on Instagram.

"Seimone Augustus. Baton Rouge icon. LSU legend. WNBA Champion. Olympic Gold Medalist. Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024," the post was captioned.

Fans took to the comment section, with some opining that the recognition took too long.

"This took wayyyy too long but much deserved," a fan wrote.
"GOAT is an understatement to what Seimone has meant to the game of basketball in general. So happy that she is receiving her flowers 🌺 and smelling them at the same time! BEYOND LEGENDARY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥," another wrote.

Augustus played for LSU from 2003 to 2006 and led the Tigers to three straight NCAA Final Four appearances. She was drafted as the No. 1 pick by the Minnesota Lynx in 2006. She won four WNBA championships and three Olympic gold medals. She became the first LSU female athlete to be honored with a statue on campus in 2023.

Seimone Augustus becomes first female LSU basketball player to be inducted into Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Seimone Augustus was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in October. It was her fourth induction this year, after the East Baton Rouge Hall of Fame, Women's Basketball Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

"It means so much," she told ESPN. "Obviously, just to be a trailblazer of the game, see the game where it's at now, the elevation of it, the visibility of it and also just for the people that I went on this journey with. It's been a long, hard journey, but very gratifying journey now that it's been stamped with a Hall of Fame nomination."

Augustus is the first LSU women's basketball player inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame. She follows six LSU players and coaches, including Bob Pettit, Pete Maravich, Shaquille O'Neal, Van Chancellor, Sue Gunter and Kim Mulkey.

Pettit, Maravich and O'Neal, whose statues stand next to Augustus', were all LSU basketball players.

Mulkey was inducted in 2020 before coming to LSU in 2021 and winning her fourth national title as a head coach with the Tigers in 2023. She won two national championships as a player at Louisiana Tech (AIAW in 1981 and NCAA in 1982) and one as an assistant at Tech (1988) before winning three as the head coach at Baylor.)

Chancellor, who won four WNBA titles with the Houston Comets (between 1997 and 2000) and the 2004 Olympic gold medal with Team USA, was inducted in September 2007. He was hired by LSU in April 2007, taking the Tigers to the 2008 Final Four.
