Dawn Staley is in Paris for the Summer Olympics and her feed is filled with her meet-ups with athletes and celebrities. From Flava Flav to Alexis Ohanian, the Team USA water polo team, and tennis legend Serena Williams, coach Staley has been pictured with everyone.
On Sunday, she met NFL legend Tom Brady and shared the moment on X. The renowned coach wrote in the captions:
"Yall I can not lie to you….don’t you ever ever look directly into @TomBrady eyes……this man is seriously beautiful. And I shook his hand….the Super Bowlssss hand. And the hand was just as gorgeous. Ok I’m done but for real."
Her caption went viral on social media and SportsCenter posted about it on their Instagram profile. Tom Brady reacted to Staley's message about him in the comments with a series of laughing emojis.
Staley added another legendary athlete to her list of meetups in Paris on Monday as she met Alex Rodriguez.
"Lightening strikes twice! @AROD #handsomemanmagnet 🤣🤣🤣," she wrote.
Coach Staley's trip to Paris began as a part of the Presidential delegation accompanying USA First Lady Jill Biden. Apart from her official obligations, the coach has also been cheering Team USA athletes.
Dawn Staley heaps praise on men's basketball players
After the Dream Team and the Redeem Team, the USA put together its most star-player-filled roster for the Paris Olympics. From LeBron James to Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and recent NBA champions Jrue Holiday, Jayson Tatum, and Derrick White, the team is stacked.
Despite the high level of talent, the players have taken what's given to them with Durant even coming off the bench and Tatum missing minutes in the opening game. Dawn Staley praised the players for not letting egos get the best of them and putting in their best performance.
"They're players who will not complain," Staley said. "They are high-performing, low-maintenance, and that's what you want. You've got your superstars. But these are the players who are starring in their rotation and their playing time."
At the same time, she acknowledged the challenges that come with coaching and running plays for a roster like this. The women's basketball team ran into a few troubles in nailing the rotation and Staley asked for patience from fans.
"Yall just so yall know it’s not easy coaching this talent filled team….virtually impossible to play 12 players. It’s all about combinations. Managing combinations within the game is extremely difficult. Let’s be patient with the process. And trust our coaches!" She wrote on X.
Staley speaks from experience as she was the coach for Team USA in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and led them to a gold medal. She has also won three golds as a player, in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.
