Azzi Fudd is carrying the UConn Huskies on her back. She continued to step up in Paige Bueckers' absence, leading the Huskies to a 73-55 victory over the Georgetown Hoyas at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
Fudd led the Huskies in scoring for the second consecutive game, dropping 21 points against the Hoyas. She shot 8-for-13 from the field, including 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. She also had one rebound and one assist in 32 minutes of action. Fudd was coming off a 23-point performance against Xavier on Wednesday.
Geno Auriemma relied on Fudd to carry the scoring cudgels for the Huskies, with Bueckers still sidelined because of a knee injury. The UConn star sprained her left knee after colliding with Villanova's Jasmine Bascoe in a loose-ball play during the second half of their Big East showdown on Sunday.
College hoops fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to Fudd's latest offensive masterclass.
"Klay Thompson with an injury history. Indeed a true Sniper. Would love to see her in the draft this year," one fan wrote.
"Dimpled demon," one fan commented.
"Ngl I thought she must have been overrated before but I now get the hype. She’s just a really good scorer. Plain and simple. Glad I stand corrected and happy for her that she’s healthy again and back in rhythm!" one fan shared.
Here are some other reactions.
"Everyone should start to be worried now that she’s back and comfortable and consistent!" one fan posted.
"She’s getting back into rhythm," one fan tweeted.
"Good to see her healthy," one fan replied.
Azzi Fudd gets offensive help from Sarah Strong in UConn's win over Georgetown
Azzi Fudd has been a vital cog for the No. 7 UConn Huskies on the offensive end, averaging 22.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in the wins over Xavier and Georgetown. She has found her shooting stroke from the 3-point area, knocking down eight of her 13 attempts from beyond the arc in those victories.
It wasn't just Azzi Fudd who wreaked havoc against the Georgetown defense. Sarah Strong scored 16 points on 7-for-15 shooting. She came close to recording her fourth double-double of the season, collecting nine boards. Strong was a workhorse for Geno Auriemma, playing a team-high 36 minutes for the Huskies. Ashlynn Shade also scored in double figures with 12 points.
